SR4S update from the Sixth Global Meeting – Global Alliance of NGO’s for Road Safety in Crete, Greece (April 2019)

Thursday 11 April: During a meeting with Phase 1 Star Rating for Schools Lead Partners, iRAP launched the SR4S Phase 1 Report – Global Pilot Studies and Road Map to 2020, summarizing the pilot phase of the programme and the road map for development of the tool to 2020. This meeting was a great opportunity to reflect on what we have collectively achieved so far, where we are now, what is expected moving forward with the development of the programme and towards the Global launch in 2020.

Partners had the chance to provide feedback on their experience with the pilot assessments, their successes and main achievements on road upgrades, progress with local partners, their insights on the use of the tool in the future and the interface of the tool with their programmes.

Programme structure was also discussed, including training topics that would be helpful to SR4S users, strategies for the global delivery of the tool and the creation of advisory groups to support Phase 2 implementation. SR4S Lead Partners also shared their main challenges and concerns in implementing road upgrades around schools and discussed potential solutions to mitigate them.

The important pilot activities undertaken by the Lead Partners in more than 600 locations worldwide during Phase 1 have helped shape and test the tool by the end of 2018 with some great results and significant learnings. The feedback from the pilot study has also identified a range of improvements that will make the application easier to use before the planned global launch in 2020.

With many of the Lead Partners already successfully undertaking assessments and building local support and commitments for upgrades and extension to other schools, their continued work during Pilot Phase 2 will ensure continued practical application and testing of the SR4S app.
